SUMMARY:Projet Seb Parent Album Release!
DESCRIPTION:Projet Seb Parent is the eponymous debut album from 24-year-old Montreal drummer Sébastien Parent. While it was written with the rich tradition of big band music in mind\, this music contains an eclectic range of stylistic influences from the genres that Parent grew up listening to\, including rock\, classical\, neo-soul\, country\, trap and bossa nova. Each piece on the album represents a unique period in Parent’s young life. \n\n\n\nThe album was recorded entirely during the depths of the Covid pandemic\, between the summer of 2021 and winter of 2022. However\, this was not a conventional studio recording: each of the 18 musicians recorded their parts separately\, at home in isolation. For some artists\, this process would seem impossible due to the lack of realtime communication\, but Parent relished the challenge. \n\n\n\nParent never intended for the album to be a showcase for his own playing first and foremost. This record is a celebration of 18 unique creative voices assembled together during a trying time. DESCRIPTION:DREAMRIDE \n\n\n\nLinda Lee Thomas – piano \n\n\n\nPablo Romero – baritone \n\n\n\nBill Runge – saxophone and clarinet \n\n\n\nHolly Burke – flute \n\n\n\nNeil Ritchie – MC \n\n\n\nIn 2020\, in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and after a five year struggle with post-concussion syndrome\, composer Holly Burke finally found herself back at the piano\, improvising again. Her muse had returned. Re-invigorated\, Burke shared a few new themes and unfinished compositions with musician and composer Bill Runge – a long time collaborator of Burke’s\, now side-lined by the pandemic. Runge was deeply moved by the incredible beauty of these musical vignettes. Together\, they began painstakingly crafting the compositions\, sometimes doing as many as two dozen drafts until they were happy with the results.  \n\n\n\nTheir collaboration yielded twenty new pieces of music. Having decided to record this new music\, they could think of no better pianist for the job than the great Linda Lee Thomas\, the principal pianist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra since 1972 and member of the British Columbia Entertainment Hall of Fame. \n\n\n\nThis collection draws from a variety of musical settings\, including jazz\, pop\, tango\, and various classical styles. It’s a fascinating and enticing body of work\, with each piece akin to a miniature tone poem. \n\n\n\nWe acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts

Each musician brings something unique and enticing to the record’s sound. Falls had each musician’s specific musical voice in mind while writing the material for this album.  \n\n\n\nThe title A Little Louder Now speaks to Falls’ personal evolution\, and her journey becoming more confident and courageous as both a musician and a person. These compositions are reflections of her life experiences\, both good and bad\, and the artistic growth that has accompanied them. The sonic textures created for the listener inspires feelings of hope and inspiration\, bringing comfort to those who are also in the midst of their own personal journeys.

DESCRIPTION:Born from the imagination of JUNO Award winning drummer and composer Ernesto Cervini\, major figure in jazz music in this country (Turboprop\, TuneTown\, Tetrahedron) and inspired by the incredible village from Louise Penny’s “Gamache” detective series\, this show features music inspired by the characters and emotions from the series\, and endeavours to capture the spirit of the books\, about goodness and decency\, about integrity\, courage and love. \n\n\n\nAs Louise Penny says\, “Three Pines is a state of mind. When we choose tolerance over hate. Kindness over cruelty. Goodness over bullying. When we choose to be hopeful\, not cynical. Then we live in Three Pines.” (Author’s notes at the end of Glass Houses) \n\n\n\nThis initiative\, favorably welcomed by Louise Penny\, is the fruit of a huge crush on the author’s work. Cervini adds\, “About five years ago\, I discovered the universe of Three Pines and I completely fell in love. I was captured by the storytelling\, and the incredible characters.  Although they are detective novels\, the books are filled with kindness and joy\, and I was inspired to write music that reflects the themes and characters in the books.” \n\n\n\nThe performance features 15 original compositions by Cervini which were written based on the characters and themes of Penny’s 17 novels (to date.) These songs are interwoven with excerpts from the books describing the characters and stories to which they refer\, are all by permission of the creator\, Louise Penny.
