The album marks a significant milestone for the JUNO Award-winning alto and soprano saxophonist: her return to solo bandleading\, and the debut of her new quartet\, the Marni Project. \n\n\n\nDavidson has spent more than twenty years distinguishing herself as a performer\, bandleader\, composer\, arranger\, and educator. Since 2004\, she has earned six JUNO nominations for Jazz Album of the Year\, both as a solo artist and with Carn Davidson 9\, the group she co-leads with her husband\, trombonist William Carn. Her first nomination came in 2008 for her sophomore recording\, Code Breaking. As a sought-after side musician\, she has contributed to dozens of recordings\, garnering nine additional JUNO nominations and winning the 2020 JUNO for Jazz Album of the Year: Group with Ernesto Cervini’s Turboprop. \n\n\n\nThe Reflection Of An Echo is Davidson’s ninth album and finds her joined by a formidable new quartet: Florian Hoefner (piano\, accordion)\, Dan Fortin (acoustic bass)\, and Ethan Ardelli (drums). Featuring eight original compositions\, the album showcases Davidson’s evolution and breadth as a composer\, with each track offering a distinct mood while retaining her singular voice as an artist.

His sound combines “luminous\, meticulous technique” (Pan M 360) with “raw authenticity” (Jazz Infos France); it merges a mastery of the natural resonance of the classical guitar with the adventurous spirit of jazz improvisation.  \n\n\n\nAfter a pandemic-enforced hiatus\, Bonnet chose to examine the way his relationship with time had been disrupted. Inspired by his experience travelling – where he discovered the Italian “slow life” and the Indian Ayurvedic tradition – he realized how much ‘hustle culture’ had undermined his sense of balance in life: he discovered that  for him\, slowness is the key to happiness. \n\n\n\nWith the help of his sensitive\, like-minded trio mates Jonathan-Guillaume Boudreau and Simon Bergeron (with whom he recorded his acclaimed albums Hybride and Live! In Harmony) Bonnet has recorded an audacious new album called Slow. His ninth album as a leader explores the essential themes of childhood\, family\, nature\, creativity\, love\, and the simple joy of the present moment. \n\n\n\nFor this new album\, Bonnet invited a longtime friend and collaborator to join the party: Joe Magnarelli. “Mags” – as the veteran American jazz trumpeter is know – is widely celebrated for his warm\, open tone and powerhouse time feel. His sound is built from a deep study of players like Charlie Parker and Kenny Dorham\, but still remains distinctly his own. That artistry\, combined with his decades of experience as an in-demand sideman and respected educator at Juilliard has earned him wide recognition among his peers. From their first encounter on Bonnet’s 2014 album DiaspoRapsodie\, both musicians felt a strong connection. A few gigs in New York followed in 2015\, but it took Bonnet ten years to finally bring Mags back to Montreal to record this beautiful new record.

He’s thrilled to announce the release of his fourth recording: Departures. \n\n\n\nDepartures is a title with many meanings. For Beddage\, the compositions on this album have been influenced by major recent life events\, including the death of his mother\, a new job\, and numerous family trips around the world. \n\n\n\nFor this album\, Beddage felt that it was time for an experiment. He decided to record with a brand new group\, assembled specifically for the session – one with no prior experience performing his music. He assembled some of his favourite Canadian musicians\, each one hailing from a different province. As Beddage recalls: “this process forced me to feel the sense of urgency that I always enjoy in a live setting\, and I loved the challenge. I hope that you will hear that urgency in the music.” \n\n\n\nThe originals and arrangements on this album reflect a broad range of themes\, including Beddage’s desire to explore his Sri Lankan heritage\, his identity as a Canadian living in America\, and his experience as a South Asian with British and European heritage. He also examines the influence of the music of Kenny Wheeler (himself a British Canadian) on his musicianship\, and the experience of European cultures through food. \n\n\n\nDepartures is an album with a wide emotional arc\, and  an important milestone in the career of Canada’s foremost baritone saxophonist.

A concept album that celebrates her roots in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia\, Exit 10 is a joyous celebration of place featuring some of Canada’s finest musicians from the jazz and trad scenes. Together\, they dig into a feast of Fiola’s original music – raucous fiddle tunes\, soulful melodies\, and swampy funk grooves. \n\n\n\nOn this new album\, Fiola finds a way to look at familiar places and landscapes with a renewed perspective and a fresh sense of excitement. Each song on Exit 10 is inspired by a location in the Annapolis Valley that was important to her when she was growing up. \n\n\n\nThe record weaves a nostalgic narrative through the fusion of her unique groove-jazz sound with elements of the East Coast music tradition\, including tap dancing\, fiddle and accordion music\, and the sound of the ocean. Merging traditional Celtic instruments with her modern brass band sound became a way to represent who Fiola is as a person and where she is as an artist. It also allowed her to challenge current jazz paradigms and demonstrate how expansive the genre can be. \n\n\n\nThe creation of this album was inspired by Fiola’s move back to the Annapolis Valley after a decade spent living in Halifax. Like many former Haligonians\, she’d been priced out of the city. Initially\, she feared that moving back home would mean sacrificing all of the artistic milestones that she had attained\, and that it would cut her off from the music industry and the relationships she had built along the way. These fears were dispelled when she discovered a welcoming\, thriving arts scene\, and realized that  her old community in Halifax wasn’t so far away after all. Fiola’s rediscovery of the Valley and renewed perspective strengthened her sense of self\, inspiring this beautiful musical dedication to her rural homeland.
