SUMMARY:James McGowan Ensemble: 'Threads of Fate' Listening Party!
DESCRIPTION:Physical Theatre actors present Threads of Fate along with accompaniment from the recorded album.  \n\n\n\nThreads of Fate is Ottawa pianist and composer James McGowan’s tenth album as leader\, and the third featuring his James McGowan Ensemble\, a 14-piece ensemble that combines horns\, strings\, and rhythm section. Building upon the large-scale vision of the JME concept albums Reaching In (2023) and Reaching Out (2024)\, Threads of Fate dives deeper into dramatic storytelling through its collaboration with KingDom Theatre in a physical theatre production (premiered at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa in 2025) that explores a contemporary telling of the Greek mythological tale of the three Goddesses of Fate. The distinctive jazz-rock fusion—enhanced by a classical-style sensibility—drives the music forward with energetic rhythmic momentum\, compelling melodic lyricism\, and a reliance upon meaning-infused thematic interplay. Finally\, original poetry\, recited over three of the 18 musical tracks\, helps to clarify the musical narrative presented in the largely instrumental pieces on this album. \n\n\n\nMcGowan wanted to create an ensemble that sometimes sounds like classical string chamber music and other times orchestral; sometimes suggests a big band and other times hits with a powerful rhythmic groove\, and yet always stays cinematic or theatrical. As a result the musical palette is intentionally diverse. Hamza Sharkas from Sistra writes about the JME: “The mix of classical and jazz is superb…and again\, the diversity here takes things to a whole new level.” Threads of Fate continues the journey.

SUMMARY:JAZZLAB ORCHESTRA "Glissement du temps" Album Release!
DESCRIPTION:Annie Dominique (ss\, as\, bc) Michael Johancsik (ss\, ts) Erik Hove (as\, fl) Nicolas Riverin (tp) Matthieu Van-Vliet (tb) Marie-Fatima Rudolf (pn) Alain Bédard (b) Michel Lambert (drs) \n\n\n\nFor two decades now\, Montreal’s JAZZLAB ORCHESTRA has been a driving force for musical creativity in their home province of Québec\, across Canada\, and around the world. This unique collective – with 500 international concerts under their belt – is back with an exciting new project: an ambitious album that blends polyrhythmic\, polytonal\, and impressionistic musical textures into a mesmerizing new whole\, driven by the sophisticated writing and improvisation that the group has long been known for. \n\n\n\nTheir new opus Slip of Time (Glissement du Temps in French)\, is an intrepid musical journey through ten original pieces (7 on CD\, 4 on LP\, and 10 released digitally) written by members of the collective as well as three other renowned jazz composers: François Bourassa\, Gentiane MG\, and Pierre de Bethmann.   \n\n\n\nIn Slip of Time\, each piece feels like a breath — a fleeting spark that shifts and evolves through time. Every sound captures a moment as it slips away\, like a fragile memory caught midair. Expansive soundscapes unfold with  intricate rhythms and orchestral timbres weaving together fluidly. It’s a sensory journey where time becomes music\, and music becomes memory. This project marks the 20th anniversary of the JAZZLAB ORCHESTRA and is a landmark work in the group’s history. It serves as both a portrait of the group’s past and a vision of its future to come. \n\n\n\nThis album also serves as a tribute to saxophonist Mario Allard\, an essential member of the collective who passed away suddenly in early 2025. His musical presence resonates in every note of this recording.

SUMMARY:Mark Tonelli 'Brasiliana' Album Release!
DESCRIPTION:American guitarist Mark Tonelli’s Brasiliana is a breakthrough release\, blending the best elements of Brazilian and jazz styles\, featuring an all-star Brazilian cast. Brasiliana represents a bold leap forward for Tonelli as a composer and a deeply personal artistic work. \n\n\n\nTonelli made thirteen trips to Brazil from 2022 to 2025. The first was as a Fulbright Scholar to teach music at a university. Three years later\, Tonelli went back to Brazil as a Fulbright Scholar again to make Brasiliana. In between\, he returned eleven times to perform and soak in the irresistible rhythm of life in Brazil. Rare for an American to become this deeply immersed in Brazilian culture\, Tonelli’s journeys forever changed him. The result is music that is not only Brazilian-inspired— it’s lived. \n\n\n\nOf the nine original compositions on the album\, six are born of Tonelli’s profound connection to Brazil. The intimate melodies and poignant harmonies of these pieces evoke images of cherished people and places. The remaining three compositions highlight Tonelli’s jazz roots and showcase the improvisational brilliance of Tonelli and his Brazilian bandmates. Taken as a whole\, Brasiliana is an immersive musical experience\, tracing Tonelli’s creative voyage from jazz composition into the heart of Brazilian culture. \n\n\n\nAdding to the album’s impact is a companion one-hour documentary by award-winning Brazilian filmmaker Thiago S. Barbosa\, which tells the extraordinary story of Tonelli’s decades-long aspiration to travel to Brazil and the winding path that led him there to create the emotionally-layered Brasiliana. The film is slated for release later this year following its international film festival run\, with trailers to be released in the coming months via Tonelli’s social media channels and select YouTube platforms.

SUMMARY:Aretha Tillotson 'Kinda Out West' Album Release Celebration!
DESCRIPTION:Kinda Out West is Edmonton bassist Aretha Tillotson’s second album as a leader. A follow up to her Western Canadian Music Award winning 2024 album Introducing Aretha Tillotson\, Kinda Out West is an ode to the musicians of her native Alberta and the neighbouring province of British Columbia: artists whose work is fuelled by the prairies and grasslands; by the ocean and the mountains. The musicians who play on this album are\, by birth or by choice\, intrinsically linked to this landscape. Despite modern comforts\, western Canadians retain the spirit of previous generations who knew that survival depended upon a strong\, independent nature coupled with an unwavering commitment to community.  \n\n\n\nTillotson’s quartet follows in the tradition of the great chordless bands of saxophonists Sonny Rollins and Ornette Coleman in the 1950’s and 1960’s. The compositions on this album are as varied as Western Canada’s breathtaking landscapes: the straight-ahead title track exhibits close ties to Rollins’ classic 1957 album Way Out West; Sad Junie brings to mind saxophonist Joe Henderson’s masterful modal writing of the 1970’s; and Tillotson’s modern compositions 35 and Jill of All are both inspired by the album’s  incredible horn frontline: Nanaimo\, BC born sisters Ingrid and Christine Jensen.

SUMMARY:Bellbird 'The Call' Album Release!
DESCRIPTION:$26With an opening set by Erika Angell \n\n\n\nAllison Burik – Alto Saxophone\, Bass ClarinetClaire Devlin – Tenor SaxophoneEli Davidovici – BassMili Hong – Drums \n\n\n\nTaking their name and sonic inspiration from the bird responsible for one of the loudest and most distinct calls in the animal kingdom\, Bellbird explores themes of interconnectedness between musicians\, genres\, and the natural world. Their second album and first for Constellation\, The Call draws directly from the white bellbird itself\, whose extreme\, distinctive cry was analyzed and woven directly into the album’s explosively beautiful title track.  \n\n\n\nThe Montréal-based quartet of Claire Devlin\, Allison Burik\, Eli Davidovici\, and Mili Hong began playing together during pandemic park jams\, inspired by the jazz and free improv scene that had formed around Café Résonance. But the four Montréal transplants fully cohered as Bellbird after an invitation to play the 2021 Ottawa Jazz Festival\, and they’ve since been refining their rapport and collective voice over years of touring and playing together. \n\n\n\nThe quartet pushes beyond their acclaimed 2023 self-released debut Root in Tandem\, embracing a deeply collaborative compositional process. Having previously split compositional duties\, the eight songs on The Call emerged from workshopping musical cues and improv games\, drawing on poems and conversations exchanged during residencies outside the city. The result is a powerful\, cohesive statement that blends their jazz-centric instrumentation with influences from rock\, fusion\, and folk\, from Mingus and Eric Dolphy to Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time and indie rock. \n\n\n\nA key feature of their sound is how they subvert the usual roles of their instruments\, with horns deploying rhythmic patterns and supportive texture while acoustic bass and drums determine the form. This approach is a microcosm of the band’s egalitarian ethos: they operate as a true collective without sacrificing their individual voices. The album balances muscular compositions\, like title track The Call\, with moments where the band slows down to revel in thematic simplicity\, as on Soft Animal and Phthalo Green. \n\n\n\nFlipping the process from their debut\, which was workshopped in the city but recorded in the countryside\, The Call was laid down at Montréal’s legendary Hotel2Tango by engineer Sylvaine Arnaud\, who captures the raw energy of the band’s live performances. The production largely eschews a traditional aesthetic\, with powerful drums and inventive analog processing that accentuates the music’s visceral impact. While often melodically rich and accessible\, this is also a band unafraid of “ugly” sounds\, harnessing multiphonics\, bowed bass\, and metallic textures to create a palette as haunting and naturalistic as it is explosive. \n\n\n\nSocially and politically engaged\, the album is a testament to the profound music created not by a single leader\, but by a deeply empathetic quartet listening\, responding\, and creating as one. The Call channels the band’s feelings on the climate crisis and global solidarity\, with one of the album’s centerpiece tracks Blowing on Embers explicitly dedicated to a free Palestine. The Call is a decisive step forward\, a unified cry from a band fully finding its powerful collective voice.

SUMMARY:Noam Lemish: 'There’s beauty enough in being here' Album Release Concert
DESCRIPTION:Noam Lemish – Piano & CompositionsSundar Viswanathan – Alto & Soprano Saxophones\, BansuriDan Fortin – Double BassNick Fraser – Drums \n\n\n\nNoam Lemish’s new album There’s beauty enough in being hereoffers a gently ravishing program inspired by a Fernando Pessoa poem about experiencing the numinous nature of even the most everyday occurrences. It’s the latest project from the Juno-nominated pianist/composer\, who’s created an enthralling body of work exploring an array of jazz idioms\, Himalayan folk music\, Middle Eastern melodies and contemporary classical music. \n\n\n\nFocusing on Lemish’s poetically charged originals\, There’s beauty enough in being here is a captivating quartet session that brings together some of Toronto’s most accomplished jazz artists. The compositions draw on a broad stylistic palette while investigating a vivid expanse of emotional terrain. Translated from Portuguese\, Pessoa’s verse centers on the lines: “Let’s pay attention only to where we are. There’s enough beauty in being here and not somewhere else.” \n\n\n\nIn many ways\, Lemish’s transcultural identity is reflected in his music. Over the course of a quarter century of musical creation he’s always sought to expand the scope of his exploration\, often blurring or ignoring deeply etched boundaries between genres\, peoples\, and traditions. He’s a jazz artist and a classical composer of chamber works\, an improviser and an accompanist\, an intrepid cross-cultural investigator and an interpreter of contemporary composition. \n\n\n\nBased since 2010 in Toronto\, Lemish is best known for leading or co-leading several acclaimed ensembles\, like the Noam Lemish Quartet\, which has been the primary vehicle for his original music since 2011\, and a quartet he co-leads with guitarist and oud expert Amos Hoffman. He’s also composed a wide range of large scale works for jazz orchestra and jazz choir. \n\n\n\nWith There’s beauty enough in being here\, Lemish adds a new twist to his compositional kaleidoscope\, revealing a dazzling array of shapes and hues. It’s the work of an artist in full command of his craft\, surrounded by creative fellow-travelers who recognize that the present moment is the precious moment\, and that every note contains a world of grace and beauty.

DESCRIPTION:Andre Wickenheiser – TrumpetAllison Au – Alto SaxophoneAretha Tillotson – BassDave Laing – Drums \n\n\n\nKinda Out West is Edmonton bassist Aretha Tillotson’s second album as a leader.

Joined by Montréal jazz heavyweights Adrian Vedady on bass and Louis-Vincent Hamel on drums\, the Kate Wyatt Trio delivers a collection of original compositions by each member\, weaving together sensitivity\, spontaneity\, and a nearly telepathic interplay. \n\n\n\nThe concept of Murmurations – inspired by nature’s spectacle of birds moving in unison – perfectly captures the essence of this album. Just as flocks of starlings shift and turn as one\, the trio moves and breathes as a single organism: responsive\, trusting\, and deeply attuned to the moment. \n\n\n\nRenowned for her creative imagination and finesse\, Paul de Hueck and Norman Walford Career Achievement Award nominee Kate Wyatt has earned a reputation as one of Canada’s most compelling jazz voices. On Murmurations\, Wyatt’s dynamic compositions are joined by those of Vedady and Hamel\, each bringing unique textures and perspectives to the trio’s collective sound. The album also features a fresh\, surprising take on the Kurt Weill standard Mack the Knife\, highlighting the group’s playful side and inventive spirit. \n\n\n\nMurmurations will be released on October 10\, 2025 on all major streaming platforms and in physical formats. The trio will be touring across Canada in support of the album\, bringing their uniquely interactive and sensitive sound to audiences nationwide. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nwww.katewyattpiano.com

SUMMARY:Saku Mantere 'Divine Apology' Album Release Celebration!
DESCRIPTION:Sets at 7pm & 9:30pm \n\n\n\n$15/set (or $25 for both) \n\n\n\nDivine Apology is a jazz album that travels through purgatory\, memory\, and longing with poetic precision and deep musical sensitivity. Composer\, vocalist\, and bandleader Saku Mantere crafts a richly textured work that draws as much from literature and philosophy as it does from the jazz tradition. Half of the album’s lyrics come from the work of poet Norman Cristofoli\, whose metaphysical play The Pub inspires the album’s overarching structure: a liminal space where souls gather\, reflect\, and await their next passage. Each song becomes a meditation—on grief\, childhood\, resistance\, or redemption—anchored by the recurring question: How does one measure the quality of life? \n\n\n\nThe ensemble features some of Canada’s most gifted jazz voices: Jim Doxas’ deeply intuitive drumming\, Kate Wyatt’s luminous piano work\, Lex French’s aching trumpet lines\, Erik Hove’s searching alto saxophone\, and Adrian Vedady’s lyrical bass—joined by the haunting voice of Bohdanna Novak in a standout wordless role on the song Not Fair. From the reimagined Finnish lullaby Lapin Äidin Kehtolaulu to the poignant intimacy of Velvet\, a love song written for Mantere’s future wife Maryam (whose artwork graces the cover)\, the album navigates shifting emotional and temporal landscapes with nuance and sincerity. \n\n\n\nThe title itself holds a double meaning: an apology as a gesture of regret\, and as a defense of the human condition. Divine Apology imagines both: a world in which divinity learns to say sorry\, and a life defended through song. By turns irreverent\, vulnerable\, and transcendent\, this album offers no easy answers\, only lyrical and musical invitations to keep asking the question. In the end\, as the usher at the back door of The Pub might say: your fate is your own to determine\, but the soundtrack can make all the difference.

SUMMARY:David Bode 'Good Hang' Album Release Celebration!
DESCRIPTION:David Bode\, a New Orleans-born saxophonist\, composer\, and arranger\, is set to release his debut album\, Good Hang\, on August 29\, 2025. \n\n\n\n“After many recordings as a sideman or bandmember\, I am very proud to present the first album under my own name\,” says Bode\, who leads a 19-piece big band ensemble that includes some of New Orleans’ finest musicians. “Big Band Jazz was the original inspiration for me to pick up the saxophone\, and I am so excited to share my interpretation of this music with the world.” \n\n\n\nThe album reflects Bode’s eclectic taste in music and his wide performance experience. From the modern jazz repertoire\, Bode includes John Coltrane’s Syeeda’s Song Flute\, the classic ballad\, Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most by Fran Landesman and Tommy Wolf\, Happy People by Kenny Garrett\, and Monkey Puzzle by New Orleans native James Black. The album also incorporates Bode’s love of pop and rock with a medley of The Beatles’ Dear Prudence and Don’t Let Me Down\, as well as a version of Lover\, You Should’ve Come Over by 90s rock legend Jeff Buckley. Rounding out the repertoire is the classic Libertango by Astor Piazzolla and two of Bode’s original compositions\, Cold Train Funk and Temporary Blindness. \n\n\n\nThe record is imbued with the history of Bode’s native city\, as it was recorded at Marigny Studios\, blocks away from the world-famous Frenchmen Street\, where Bode and many other musicians on the album first cut their teeth. “Marigny Studios was originally Luthjens’ Dance Hall\, where many New Orleans musicians played in the 60s and 70s. It’s great that a building with so much history is still a part of the musical fabric of the city\,” says Bode. \n\n\n\nGood Hang was supported by a grant from the Threadhead Cultural Foundation\, which promotes the cultural heritage of New Orleans. \n\n\n\nThe album will be released 20 years to the day after Hurricane Katrina and the federal levee failures swamped the city of New Orleans. “My family was very lucky with Katrina\, but it still impacted me in a major way as I spent months away from Louisiana for the first time in my life\,” reminisces Bode. “When I returned\, I had a renewed sense of how important New Orleans is in the history of music. This album is a culmination of many years of study\, performance\, writing\, and living\, and I hope my contribution to New Orleans’ musical history is enjoyed by all.”

SUMMARY:Curtis Nowosad 'I Am Doing My Best' Album Release Celebration!
DESCRIPTION:I Am Doing My Bestis the fourth full-length album from JUNO-nominated\, NYC-based jazz drummer Curtis Nowosad. Slated for release in June 2025 on La Reserve Records\, the album is co-produced by two-time JUNO-winning guitarist & singer-songwriter Joey Landreth\, and features special guests Joanna Majoko on vocals and Andrew Renfroe on guitar. \n\n\n\nThis is music for healing in an increasingly demanding world. We all have something—or many somethings—to heal from\, and it is Nowosad’s sincere belief that if we can begin the messy\, perpetual process of healing ourselves\, we can begin the work of helping to heal our little corners of the world. If we can do that\, we can create a kinder\, gentler\, more equitable and more forgiving world for future generations. Some of the themes explored in the music and particularly the lyrics—co-written with Majoko and Landreth—include self-compassion and treating yourself with kindness\, being the person your child needs while doing the same for your younger self\, building a life that aligns with your values\, accepting your place in the stories of others\, embracing change as the only constant in life and choosing faith in the face of self-doubt and indecision.  \n\n\n\nHaving long been a staple of the NYC jazz scene\, touring and recording with many diverse artists including Braxton Cook\, Jazzmeia Horn\, Jane Monheit\, Brianna Thomas\, Jocelyn Gould\, Bria Skonberg\, Philip Harper\, Marc Cary and Craig Harris\, the album comes at a critical turning point in Nowosad’s career. He is excited to release this exceptional album—his first to feature all-original music—while showcasing his use of language to express messages that are at once both universal and deeply personal. \n\n\n\n“Nowosad is fiery and scalding one moment\, breezy and swinging the next\, and perpetually inventive throughout.” \n\n\n\nDownbeat \n\n\n\n“Nowosad consistently pushes his players to go the extra distance and stretch boundaries.” \n\n\n\nJazzTimes \n\n\n\nI Am Doing My Best will be released worldwide on Friday\, June 6th 2025 on La Reserve.

SUMMARY:Joshua Banks 'Para Sayo' @ The Edmonton International Jazz Festival
DESCRIPTION:Joshua banks – PianoConnor Miskiman – BassJon Guenter – DrumsHazel Cavida – VocalsDana Anderson – Alto SaxophoneNick Lange – Tenor Saxophone \n\n\n\nWith his first recording project\, Para Sayo\, Edmonton pianist Joshua Banks has proven himself to be a thrilling new compositional force in contemporary jazz. After studying the sounds of illustrious Asian pianists Hiromi Uehara\, Kie Katagi\, and Nahre Sol\, Banks called upon his formidable technical facility developed through years of classical study to craft an album featuring a distinctive fusion of styles that strives to expand the presence of Asian-inspired jazz in North America. \n\n\n\nBanks refined the music of Para Sayo over the course of two years. After affirming his personal sound\, he connected with his good friend\, lyricist Hazel Cavida. “I approached Hazel about collaborating on a lyric in both English and Tagalog. As someone who often feels disconnected from my heritage\, I leaned on her a lot to flesh out the album’s themes\, titles\, and stories. When Hazel came on board\, the album really began to get its legs\, not just as an exploration of Asian musical identities\, but of my own identity as an Asian/Filipino-Canadian in general. I was born ‘here’ in Canada\, and so I have nothing from ‘there’— my family’s homeland. The album is an exploration of what it means to find space as an Asian artist\, and what it means to find space for ourselves\, our families\, our people\, and our culture in the west.” \n\n\n\nIn addition to Cavida’s contributions\, Para Sayo showcases the artistry of many of Western Canada’s most exciting up and coming young musicians. Banks’ own mother\, Corazon Banks\, recorded a spoken word contribution in her native Ibaloi— the language belonging to her indigenous group native to the Philippine Cordillera mountains— as a way to honour her ancestral contribution to his music. The result is a scintillating modern jazz album that is deeply grounded in both musical and emotional storytelling.

SUMMARY:Lulaworld 2025: Joaquin Nuñez with Dayramir González & Natasha Roldán
DESCRIPTION:Ruta de la Clave\, the highly anticipated debut album from Juno-winning Cuban-Canadian percussionist\, composer\, producer\, and bandleader Joaquín Núñez\, is the result of five years of creative exploration. Produced in collaboration with acclaimed New-York based Cuban pianist and jazz innovator Dayramir González\, the album offers a rich sonic journey tracing the evolution of Cuban music through its heartbeat: the clave. \n\n\n\nAs the title suggests\, Ruta de la Clave (“The Route of the Clave”) charts the rhythmic and cultural trajectory of this essential Afro-Cuban pattern from its early expressions in the contradanza of the 1800s\, through genres such as danzón\, changüí\, son\, and rumba\, and into their present-day forms. Rooted in tradition but infused with modern sophistication\, the album blends folkloric rhythms and authentic instrumentation with the harmonic and improvisational complexity of New York jazz. \n\n\n\nHeavily influenced by the sounds of Charlie Parker\, Dizzy Gillespie\, and the golden era of bebop\, Ruta de la Clave bridges continents and centuries. Tracks like ‘Una Guajira en New York’ tell vivid musical stories—this particular piece follows a guajira (Cuban country girl) whose traditional style is forever transformed by an encounter with piano\, trumpet\, and saxophone in the streets of New York. ‘Suite Columbia’ offers an instrumental narrative of an enslaved African brought to Cuba\, who though forced to leave his home\, discovers familiar flavours and sounds on the Caribbean island. \n\n\n\nRecorded in Canada between 2022 and 2024\, Ruta de la Clave is not just an album—it’s a statement\, a celebration\, and a reinvention of Afro-Cuban jazz.

Lalita’s Waltz is a beautiful\, evocative jazz waltz in the style of Bill Evans\, written with heartfelt dedication to Holt’s wife\, and filled with surprising harmonic twists that captivate the listener. \n\n\n\nComplementing these compositions are other Holt originals\, a smokin’ hot version of Tom McIntosh’s Cup Bearers\, and a stunning solo piano rendition of O Canada\, a piece that reimagines the national anthem with emotional depth and creative flair. Backing Holt on this project is a powerhouse band featuring some of Canada’s top jazz players: Perry White\, Kevin Turcotte\, Duncan Hopkins\, and Terry Clarke. Together\, they deliver an album that is both innovative and true to the timeless essence of straight-ahead jazz.

SUMMARY:Dr. Purgatory: 'The Consumption: A Tragic Folktale in Six Parts' Album Release!
DESCRIPTION:David Riddel – Guitar\, CompositionsAline Homzy – ViolinColleen Allen – Alto Sax\, FluteConrad Gluch – Alto Sax\, Bass ClarinetNoam Lemish – PianoAndrew Downing – Upright BassStefan Hegerat – Drums \n\n\n\nWhen Toronto guitarist and composer David Riddel (aka. Dr. Purgatory) set out to record his second LP\, The Consumption: A Tragic Folktale in Six Parts\, he had no idea it would become a multidisciplinary project.  \n\n\n\n‘“I wanted to make an album that was one part Reinier Baas [Riddel’s hero and mentor]\, one part Maurice Ravel\, and one part Bjork\,” Riddel says. While the influence of the latter may be less obvious to the listener\, Riddel claims “her spirit is at the forefront of the project. Everything I compose is essentially influenced by Bjork’s 2001 album Vespertine.” The result is a lush and angular 10-track chamber jazz concept album of all original material\, featuring decorated Canadian jazz mainstays Colleen Allen\, Andrew Downing\, Noam Lemish\, Aline Homzy\, Stefan Hegerat and Conrad Gluch. \n\n\n\nThe most intriguing part of the project\, however\, is the accompanying 40 page novella\, a dark\, modern folktale featuring characters from mythology and folklore. “When the concept of the album became so clear\,” says Riddel\, who’d been tinkering with short fiction\, “the story just started forming in my mind.” After that\, he put to page an Odyssean tale influenced by a few works by his literary heroes: Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders\, Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh and Aleister Crowley’s demonology text\, The Lesser Key of Solomon. \n\n\n\nThe emotional\, irreverent album and the darkly humorous\, brooding folktale (featuring illustrations by Toronto artist Sid Sharp) are inextricably linked\, and are each all the more compelling in their union. Dr. Purgatory’s The Consumption: A Tragic Folktale in Six Parts will be premiered in full at Burdock Brewery in Toronto on March 20th. The album will be available on vinyl\, and a physical copy of the book is included with purchase.

SUMMARY:Ariane Racicot: 'Danser avec le feu' Album Release!
DESCRIPTION:Doors @ 7; show @ 8 \n\n\n\nAriane Racicot – Piano\, CompositionsAntoine Rochefort – Electric BassGuillaume Picard – Drums \n\n\n\nAriane Racicot – winner of the 2022-2023 Révélation Radio-Canada prize for jazz – announces her second album Danser avec le feu (‘Dancing With Fire.’) With passion and intensity\, the Montreal pianist continues to explore her hybrid mix of jazz fusion\, Latin music\, metal\, classical and progressive rock. For fans of Tigran Hamasyan\, Hiromi Uehara and Avishai Cohen\, Racicot’s music will feel like home. \n\n\n\nThis album’s eight new pieces place her joie de vivre and her passion for music front and center. With her trusted musical partners Antoine Rochefort and Guillaume Picard by her side\, she tackles a new suite of songs about resilience\, environmental anxiety and the importance of trusting your instincts. \n\n\n\nThe seeds for Danser avec le feu were planted during the tour for Ariane’s first album\, Envolée. As the relationship between the three musicians deepened\, she was inspired to push her concept further\, exploring her unique fusion of genres and the textural possibilities of the combination of acoustic piano and electric bass. Many of the pieces on this recording are through composed from start to finish\, lending the album a pacing and shape that bring to mind the sound of progressive rock. \n\n\n\nDanser avec le feu is ultimately an exploration of language: in terms of sonic texture\, harmonic colour\, and the rhythmic pulse of a number of musical traditions.
