SUMMARY:Greenhouse Ensemble: 'Mezzanine' Release Tour!
DESCRIPTION:May 8: Mezzanine release show @ Le Ministère\, Montréal\, QCMay 17: Maison de la culture de Pointe-Clair\, Montreal\, QCJuly 31: Bar à Piton\, Chicoutimi\, QCAugust 1: Jazz sous la lune\, Les Escoumins\, QCAugust 2: Café-bar Zénob\, Trois-Rivières\, QC \n\n\n\nRoxane Reddy – VocalsCamille Brousseau – ViolinWilliam Lussier – Trumpet\, FlugelhornChristophe Magnan-Bossé – Piano\, Rhodes\, MelodicaLouis-Martin Ruest – Guitars\, EffectsBenjamin Lavoie-Doyon – Upright Bass\, Electric BassSimon Desrosiers – Drums\, Percussion \n\n\n\nWith Mezzanine\, Québec’s Greenhouse Ensemble present the culmination of several years of sonic exploration and collaborative composition. This captivating new album builds on the foundation they laid with their debut album Rez-de-chaussée (Ground Floor.) \n\n\n\nThe seven members of the ensemble reunited in July 2025 to craft a deeply expressive and unique body of work that weaves their diverse influences into a fresh\, cinematic jazz aesthetic. Rooted in contemporary jazz and infused with elements of traditional Québécois folk music\, the album also ventures into more experimental territory through sonic manipulation and the use of new textures. The result is a mature\, cohesive collective voice\, both intimate and expansive. It’s presented with pride\, and as always\, with the group’s distinctive fiddle/trumpet/wordless voice trio at its core. Blending local traditions with a distinctly global perspective\, the ensemble crafts a singular sound that reaches across cultures and is poised to connect with  international audiences. \n\n\n\nFor this new creative era\, the band placed greater emphasis on collaborative composition\, with exercises and workshops designed to explore the many timbral combinations made possible by the group’s distinctive instrumentation. Long connected in improvised settings on stage\, they sought to bring that same spirit of sharing to their songwriting process. \n\n\n\nThe result is a truly remarkable album. If their first record is the foundation\, this new record represents the floor above\, where new ideas are cultivated and where the future of music is contemplated. From the height of the Mezzanine\, the Rez-de-chaussée can be observed with new clarity and new perspectives. In doing so\, the band moves forward in a new direction\, without ever losing sight of where they began. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\ngreenhouse-ensemble.com

SUMMARY:James McGowan Ensemble: 'Threads of Fate' Listening Party!
DESCRIPTION:Physical Theatre actors present Threads of Fate along with accompaniment from the recorded album.  \n\n\n\nThreads of Fate is Ottawa pianist and composer James McGowan’s tenth album as leader\, and the third featuring his James McGowan Ensemble\, a 14-piece ensemble that combines horns\, strings\, and rhythm section. Building upon the large-scale vision of the JME concept albums Reaching In (2023) and Reaching Out (2024)\, Threads of Fate dives deeper into dramatic storytelling through its collaboration with KingDom Theatre in a physical theatre production (premiered at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa in 2025) that explores a contemporary telling of the Greek mythological tale of the three Goddesses of Fate. The distinctive jazz-rock fusion—enhanced by a classical-style sensibility—drives the music forward with energetic rhythmic momentum\, compelling melodic lyricism\, and a reliance upon meaning-infused thematic interplay. Finally\, original poetry\, recited over three of the 18 musical tracks\, helps to clarify the musical narrative presented in the largely instrumental pieces on this album. \n\n\n\nMcGowan wanted to create an ensemble that sometimes sounds like classical string chamber music and other times orchestral; sometimes suggests a big band and other times hits with a powerful rhythmic groove\, and yet always stays cinematic or theatrical. As a result the musical palette is intentionally diverse. Hamza Sharkas from Sistra writes about the JME: “The mix of classical and jazz is superb…and again\, the diversity here takes things to a whole new level.” Threads of Fate continues the journey.

SUMMARY:JabFung 'In Real Life' Album Release Dates!

Following their acclaimed debut Epoch\, this new recording serves as a defiant celebration of human presence and real-time collaboration in an increasingly digital\, cynical world. \n\n\n\nRecorded immediately following a spring tour\, In Real Life captures a quintet at its most instinctual. The core group\, featuring Cuban-Canadians Luis Deniz and Rafael Zaldivar\, is expanded for the first time with the addition of celebrated Brooklyn-based trumpeter Adam O’Farrill. \n\n\n\nThe album’s eight tracks showcase a balanced\, collaborative compositional partnership\, with Fung contributing five pieces and Anderson-Bowes contributing three. The quintet’s chemistry is most evident in the deep and searching duets between Deniz and O’Farrill\, reflecting a profound level of listening established over only two short days together. O’Farrill’s inclusion marks a meaningful reunion for the leaders\, who share histories with the trumpeter dating back to their formative years in Monterey Youth Big Band and at the Banff Centre for the Arts. \n\n\n\nThe album’s visual identity\, designed by artist Klara Vanzella Yang\, mirrors the music’s central theme. The cover art – a holographic city set against a sparse natural backdrop – captures the tension of modern “connectivity” and the isolation that often hides within it.
